A Natural Approach to Solving Depression

By Jeremiah Say

DepressionDepression is a condition that currently affects many Americans and if you are one of them you know how hard it can be just to get through the day sometimes. There are many great pharmacological solutions on the market, but they come with costly side effects that can leave you feeling worse. There are also many natural approaches to controlling depression that have good results. It is amazing how solutions as simple as exercise, nutrition, and taking time for yourself can help with the oppressive symptoms of depression.

Exercise Your Way to Happier Feelings

Exercise actually releases chemicals in the brain that can change your mood. These chemicals are called endorphins and they have the ability to reduce pain, stress, and anxiety. They actually act in the same way that analgesic do in the brain.

You do not need to do strenuous exercise to reap the benefits of endorphins. In fact, a brisk walk, swim or a bike ride will do just as much good. You simply have to find a physical activity you enjoy and get moving.

Another great thing about endorphins is they are non-habit forming so you can find relief for depression without fear of dependence.

Nutrition that Will Improve Mood

Depression can make it hard to eat the right amount and kinds of food. Many people react to depression by eating either too much food or too little. However, your diet does matter when it comes to controlling the symptoms of depression. Simply put, food is fuel for the body and if it does not get the right fuel, then it will not work in an efficient manner.

Balance is the key when it comes to diet. You need to eat a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat. One fat that it is good to get more of is omega-3 fatty acids. A lack of omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to cause depression.

Another vitamin which you may not get enough of, but may help keep depression down is B-12. It may not decrease depression, but if you are low in B-12, then it could make the problem worse.

Meditate Your Way to a Better Perspective

When you are depressed either you have trouble calming your thoughts and you are anxious, or it seems as though your thoughts are running in slow motion. Meditation is a way to bring these thought patterns back to the center. It will allow you to work through thoughts and emotions causing feelings of depression. There are some thoughts and feelings you will be able to tackle on your own, and there are others for which it is best to see a professional therapist to help you. In either case you will be one step closer to understanding the root of the problem with meditation.

Make Sure you are Getting Enough Time to do What You Love

It may sound simple, but find something you love to do and set aside a healthy amount of time to engage in that activity. First, it is important to take time for yourself. Secondly, a hobby you enjoy can have a similar affect to endorphins helping improve your mood. This is probably one of the most natural ways you can decrease depression.

Going Beyond Limiting Beliefs

Rubix Cube Scrambled

by Jacob Louis

In my experience working full-time as a web development technician, I often get assigned jobs that I simply don’t believe I can accomplish. It just seems too overwhelming and complex, but I don’t give up. I keep working at it with persistence even when I think there’s no way I can possibly complete the project. I get determined to solve the puzzle, and I won’t rest until I do.

Rubix Cube SolvedThat’s when something magic happens, and the impossible becomes possible. Eventually, I get the job done. Somehow, I find a way where I thought there was none. The pieces start to line up, and things start working the way I want them to.

It just goes to show that we’re able to accomplish much more than we give ourselves credit for. When we focus with an unwavering will to reach our goals, we can go beyond limiting beliefs and achieve great success.

Attaining Unconditional Peace

Buddhaby Jacob Louis

In the morning, we can make a choice to create our day in our minds and hearts as we’d like it to be, and commit not to let anything stand in the way of our inner happiness. When this commitment is truly made, nothing can stop us. Even when faced with challenges and adversity, there is an ability to handle the situations faster and with more confidence, because we’ve made it our choice to maintain a positive attitude no matter what happens.

Unconditional peace means to be peaceful regardless of the conditions around us. Whether the things that are happening around us are pleasing or not. We have a choice how we will respond. We must learn how to act consciously in the moment instead of reacting based on feelings caused by past trauma. When something seemly negative happens in our lives, we must make a choice to let go and see the blessings. It’s not always easy, but we can start to catch ourselves, and relax in the knowing that this too will pass.

Just think about how much energy it takes to be unhappy. If we can redirect and conduct that same amount of energy in the direction of keeping a healthy outlook, then we will have achieved real unconditional peace. Once we have a clear vision of what we desire, and release all attachment to controlling the situation at hand, it’s much easier to achieve things we never thought possible in our wildest dreams.

2 Tips for Completing Your To-Do List

Corrie PetersenBy

Creating a to-do list is a great way to make sure you complete all the tasks you’d like to complete in any given time. You can create these for personal use as well as business use. There are so many things you can create a to-do list for that the list is endless, but the important thing is to know what needs to be done to complete the list and meet your deadlines and goals.

While there are many ways to complete your to-do list I have found some of them don’t work for me. Here are the two that have helped me the most and the ones I use every day so I make sure I complete my to-do list and stay on track.

1. Length

I’ve tried creating to-do lists for the entire month and for the entire week and all that does is frustrate me. I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere because the list is so long. The reason it’s so long is because I have daily and weekly things I do for myself and for my clients and so those things must be on the list multiple times.

It’s not good to have a to-do list that’s 2 full notebook paper sheets long. That length can get to anyone and I know it certainly got to me so I had to make a change. Now I create a daily to-do list. That way my list is shorter and I don’t miss anything because it was put further down on the long list and was surrounded by tasks that weren’t due for a week or more.

2. Hard Tasks First

I found I was having a problem with my to-do lists and with that came the time when it wasn’t being completed. My problem had to do with tasks I didn’t like to do or ones that were hard. I found I would do all the easy and fun ones first and that left me to complete those ones that I didn’t want to do, but needed to be done. When I discovered this was going on I decided to try changing things so I could prevent that from happening.

One way I tried was to do those tasks I didn’t want to do or were hard to do first. I thought if I got them out of the way first it wouldn’t be so bad. I’d have all the rest to look forward too. Now sometimes that works and it may work for you, but over time I found that wasn’t working either. I found I was procrastinating and that made it difficult to complete the rest of the tasks on my list.

So my last resort was to intermingle easy tasks with hard tasks and that’s finally what it took to make it work. I would do one easy and fun task and then do one task I didn’t want to do. Once that was done I would do another fun one and then another hard one. Before I knew it, the tasks were done and it was smooth sailing after that.

When you have things you need to get done and you don’t want to forget them, you need a to-do list. It’s the best way to see what you need to accomplish and crossing things off gives you a great feeling of success. When you use these two ways to complete it or other strategies that work for you, you’ll complete your to-do list and feel great about your days.
